UMT JSC is part of DOMINO – a dual education program for high-school students

Dual education is introduced in Bulgaria as part of the project “Swiss support for using dual education principles in the Bulgarian education system”, financed by Switzerland in the Bulgarian-Swiss partnership program. The project is called DOMINO and started in 2015.

UMT JSC has been part of DOMINO for several years and successfully offers practical preparation of students from the professional high-school of “Ivan Hadzhienov” in the town of Kazanlak.

The students working at UMT come to work 3 days per week for 7 hours per day (a total of 21 hours per week). During work time they have mentors who they can ask questions and clarifications if something is unclear. UMT has a big last-generation machine park and during the dual education process the students work on every machine in the park At the end of their training, the students have two exams – written and practical. The practical exam takes place during the production process at UMT.

The advantage of DOMINO is that the project is executed together with the Ministry of Education and Science and all of its educational programs are endorsed by the minister of education. In this way these programs become part of the compulsory education and trainings. Around 70% of the companies participating in DOMINO are Bulgarian ones.

In this relation, Mr. Nikolay Spirov, managing director of UMT, commented: “With our active participation in DOMINO we achieve two strategic goals of the company. First of all, we train thoroughly the future employees of UMT. And second, we show that we are responsible citizens for the future generations of Bulgaria”.
